Famous Wedding Vows to Inspire your own

When you’re preparing to say your vows, you’ve got lots of options. You can either choose to go down the traditional route or, like many others, you can write your own.

There’s something very special about writing your own wedding vows, but there’s also huge pressure to capture exactly what you want to say. Why not take a look at some of these famous wedding vows for a touch of inspiration?

Big Bang Theory – Penny and Leonard

Fans of the Big Bang Theory watched Penny and Leonard go through their ups and downs throughout the many series, breaking up, pining from afar and then getting back together. Although theirs is often a fiery relationship, they’re a couple that’s destined to be together, as Leonard alluded to in his famous wedding speech.

Describing himself and Penny as being made from “particles that have existed since the moment the universe began…” he described how those atoms had travelled through 14 billion years to come together.

Who knew that science could be so romantic? In response, Penny said that Leonard was “the love of her life” and that there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for him. As it turned out, Penny’s vows were actually the lyrics from the famous song, You’ve Got a Friend in Me.

But hey, if there’s a song which means a lot to you, why not take inspiration from the lyrics? Maybe just don’t quote a whole chunk like Penny!

Sex and the City 2 – Anthony and Stanford

Although the series followed the romantic fortunes of four women, it was two men who really stole the show when it came to wedding vows. It took a while for Anthony and Stanford to admit their true feelings for each other, but after a season of faux rivalry, they kissed on New Year’s Eve and the floodgates opened.

At their wedding, Anthony tells Stanford that even though it wasn’t love at first sight, it did turn out to be real love. And he says the poignant words, “You are the first man to accept me for the man that I actually am.”

Twilight – Bella and Edward

Marrying a vampire is a pretty serious business, but anyone who followed the romance of Edward and Bella throughout the Twilight films couldn’t doubt their commitment to each other. Despite werewolf Jacob declaring his love for Bella too, it was the pale-faced, vamp Edward that she wanted to be with.

The vows between Edward and Bella stretch on for much longer than many other vows but when you’ve got eternal life to share, it’s a huge commitment.

It’s worth listening to a clip on YouTube or settling down to watch the film to get the full impact of the declarations of love. However, Edward declaring that Bella’s very existence changed him forever is just beautiful.

Sleepless in Seattle

If you don’t want to use wedding vows that someone else has said, why not take inspiration from a beautiful movie quote instead?

Sleepless in Seattle is a film about love, and the way that Sam speaks about his wife doesn’t leave a dry eye in the house. He says he fell in love with the “million tiny things” that when they came together, felt like “coming home”. He describes how the day he took her hand to help her out of the car he “knew”, because it was “magic”.

Tissue anyone?
