2020 Wedding Trend Predictions

For all you wonderful couples getting married in 2020, you might just be surprised at how quickly your wedding year is coming – which means you can start to get excited about tying the knot! Plus, with your wedding year getting closer, now is definitely the time to start looking at all the wonderful 2020 wedding trends to get you inspired for your big day.
So, whether you’re looking for finishing touches or you’re just starting with your creative wedding planning, here are the biggest wedding trends set to hit in 2020:

Wedding Dresses

For many brides, you’ll have dreamed of the perfect wedding dress for years. Which means you’ll have a good idea of the type of dress you would like to try. For those a little more unsure, or if you’re a little overwhelmed by the idea of a big dress, you might be surprised to hear that for 2020, you’ll see more and more brides opting for less traditional dresses. For instance, bridal suits, black dress details, capes and even ‘ginger’ tulle are all looking to be big 2020 bridal looks. Which means you can really customise your wedding look to feel a little more you.

For more traditional dresses, you’ll find that 2020 is the year of the high-low wedding dresses. Here you’ll find traditional gowns that are shorter at the front and longer at the back. These range from slight hemline variations to the dramatic. Even better, these dresses allow you to show off those gorgeous bridal shoes you bought for the big day.

Wedding Cakes

While geode and agate cakes were a stylish wedding must-have in the last few years, future trends are seeing more watercolour, abstract strokes and nature illustration. As more and more couples are choosing interesting flavours and designs for their cakes. Think bright colours, square cakes, assymetry, lots of interesting florals, frills & ruffles and simple one-tier cakes are now on the rise.

Don’t worry if you’re if opting for a classic white wedding cake though, you can still embody the 2020 trends by choosing unusual flavours. Just look at Harry and Meghan, they might have had a stunning and traditional white cake, but they let their personalities sing with the lemon and elderflower flavouring.

Wedding Décor

For wedding décor, many of 2019’s trends are still popular, including the additions of opulent textures like velvet. What you will see in 2020 is that detail is key. As rather than a lot of matchy-matchy table settings based on a colour, couples are now looking for more impact with their décor. To achieve this, items like cutlery and napkins are becoming more important, with something as simple as choosing black or gold cutlery over traditional silver making a massive impact on your table. Similarly, by choosing a different colour or material for your napkins (such as lace), your tables will instantly look different from anything your guests have seen before.

Personalisation is also becoming a massive 2020 trend, with many couples choosing to make their centrepieces something that reflects their personalities or even tells the story of how they met and fell in love.
The social media aspect of weddings – particularly Instagram – is still going to be very popular. Which is why many couples are creating exciting wedding walls from things like balloons and flowers, as these provide the perfect backdrop for their guests to take photographs of themselves.
