In September (after a busy wedding season), I jetted off to Jamaica for a relaxing week in the sun.
Jamaica is the liveliest, most captivating and most compelling island in the English-speaking Caribbean – and among the most beautiful too.
It has the beaches and the hotels, but Jamaica also has more depth, with culture in its history, art and of course its music.
I’ve spent a lot of time on this beautiful Caribbean island and here are my secrets to planning a wonderful wedding in Jamaica.
When it comes to a destination wedding, weather plays a big role. July, August, and December are the most popular months for weddings in Jamaica because of the excellent weather. Avoid the months of June & November since that’s hurricane season in Jamaica. Avoid school holidays in February, March/April when resorts can be full of young kids.
Jamaica Wedding Venues
Round Hill Resort
One of my favourite wedding venues on this stunning Caribbean island is the Round Hill Resort. Just recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended Harry’s best friend’s wedding here.
Round Hill Resort, Jamaica located in Hopewell, Hanover, first opened its doors in 1952. This former sugar plantation, situated on a peninsula that graces the edge of Round Hill Bay, has won the hearts of some of the world’s most sophisticated guests.
Spanning 110 private acres, Round Hill Hotel and Villas presents an exclusive and gated private resort, designed to capture spectacular ocean views, immaculately maintained gardens and a stunning sandy beach.
The Resort offers different style weddings. For example, you might want to enjoy your wedding banquet on the beach with beautifully decorated tables arranged along the shoreline. How fabulous to be barefoot in true Caribbean wedding fashion.
While in Jamaica I was lucky enough to stay next door to the GoldenEye Resort. There’s a magnetic quality here that has, for decades, attracted creatives of all stripes. Fleming, who suffered from writer’s block, created the James Bond character while at GoldenEye—and wrote another Bond adventure during every winter. Sting wrote the hit, ‘Every Breath You Take’ and Bono wrote the theme song to the GoldenEye film while here.
GoldenEye is all about spectacular settings and intimate, personal experiences. That's probably why GoldenEye is one of those places where couples choose to marry. The sea view peninsulas, Low Cay Beach and Fleming Villa are only a few of the stunning locations for exchanging vows.
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for both men and women. If under 18 then parental consent is required.
Jamaica's popularity as a wedding destination comes from its easy marriage legalities, you only have to be resident for 24 hours before you can be married, this must include one working day.
